Goodwood

Arguably the jewel in Goodwood’s crown is the Revival, a three-day time warp back to the heyday fo the circuit, with all the bells and whistles scattered liberally. There are few, if any, events like the Revival, with many leading drivers labelling it ‘the motor racing equivalent of Disneyland’, and they’re right as thousands flocks to the Motor circuit in period dress to forget all about the stresses of the modern world and embrace the simpler joy of a post-war return to racing.

Running on September 8-10, here are some of the key aspects of the celebrations that will be happening, both to mark Goodwood’s 75th anniversary, and the 25th since the first Revival was staged.

This year’s honoured driver will be racer-turned-tuning legend Carroll Shelby, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year. Shelby also took part in what is arguably the most dramatic race Goodwood has ever seen – the 1959 RAC Tourist Trophy, when Stirling Moss took over Shelby and Jack Fairman’s Aston Martin DBR1/300 after his own car caught fire in the pits, fighting back through the field to win the race and the World Sportscar Championship for Aston Martin.

As well as Goodwood, Lotus also celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2023. Plans are afoot to gather a vast array of cars showcasing the evolution of the brand under the stewardship of founder Colin Chapman.

What else is going on?

Well, how much do you want? Aside from what will be a packed racing programme on the Motor Circuit, the ‘Over The Road’ section provides a vast array of food and drink options, car displays, family entertainments, retail markets and more. If you’re a fan of all things Repair Shop, the new Revive and Thrive feature will showcase some techniques to breathe new life into old belongings – be they automotive or not.

Trust us, it will be well worth breaking out the tweed for.

What about tickets?

Tickets are now sold out across the weekend, but Goodwood does have a resale platform where ticket-holders can sell unwanted spaces for face value (plus fees): check Twickets for availability

How do I watch the Goodwood Revival?
